Barrie, ON - Alectra Utilities is addressing increasing customer electricity demands by reinforcing its power grid in the City of Barrie. In 2023, Alectra is investing $7 million to construct and renew infrastructure which will improve power reliability across the city.
With parts of Barrie’s system reaching the end of its life cycle, renewing the deteriorating infrastructure is necessary to maintain reliability. This series of infrastructure upgrades will stabilize the existing system and reduce outage impacts in the community.
In 2023, Alectra plans to invest in significant capital renewal projects in Barrie impacting 28,753 customers including:
- $3.9M to renew old infrastructure including pole transformers, switchgear, vault cover renewal and net new automation
- $1.7M to rehabilitate underground cables on Sunnidale and Anne
- $1.3M to replace and upgrade stations
In 2022, Alectra invested $3.3M in rehabilitating underground cable and upgrading feeder lines, improving reliability for over 11,000 Barrie customers.
