Hamilton, ON - Alectra Utilities is addressing increasing electricity demands by strengthening its power grid in the City of Hamilton. In 2023, Alectra is investing over $22 million in infrastructure modernization projects as the city’s demand for electricity continues to grow.
With parts of Hamilton's system reaching the end of its normal life cycle, renewing aging infrastructure is necessary to maintain reliability. This series of infrastructure upgrades will stabilize the existing system and reduce outage impacts in the community.
In 2023, Alectra plans to invest in significant capital renewal projects impacting 31,000 customers in Hamilton, including:
- $5.4M to renew old infrastructure in the Hamilton Downtown core (Central MS)
- $7.3M to renew old infrastructure including pole transformers, and switchgear vault cover renewal in Hamilton
- $5.7M to rehabilitate underground via cable injection and replacement at Millen – Barton – Fruitland
- $1.8M to construct new automated devices in Hamilton
- $1.3M to replace and upgrade stations within Hamilton
- $974,547 to construct new build at Hamilton South Mountain Feeders capacity relief
In 2022, Alectra invested over $10 million to replace underground cable, and construct two new feeder lines, increasing and improving the electricity supply for 7,000 homes and businesses in Hamilton.
