Aurora, ON – Alectra Utilities announced a significant $6.3 million investment aimed at enhancing the reliability and supporting the growing energy needs of the Town of Aurora. As Aurora continues to develop, Alectra is committed to upgrading and modernizing the city’s electricity infrastructure to ensure consistent and dependable service for both residential and commercial customers.
“The safety and reliability of electricity delivery to our customers is our top priority,” said Chris Hudson, senior vice-president of operations, Alectra. “By investing in cutting-edge technologies and modernizing our infrastructure, we’re not just improving service today but also preparing Aurora’s energy grid to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s growth.”
In 2023, Alectra achieved a strong reliability record, with customers experiencing minimal outages and swift restoration times. This performance places Alectra among the leaders in reliability across Ontario’s local distribution companies.
In 2024, Alectra plans to implement several key projects in Aurora, including:
- $1.3 million to replace aging infrastructure such as poles, transformers, and switchgear. Modernizing these elements will help minimize disruptions and enhance the reliability of Aurora’s energy grid for all customers.
- $3 million to replace and rehabilitate underground cables using cable injection technology. This process will extend the life of existing underground cables, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and help prevent outages.
- $2 million to connect new customers, accommodating Aurora’s growth and development.
Alectra has allocated approximately $297 million in 2024 for capital improvements across its 17 communities to renew aging equipment and install new infrastructure to handle growing demand.
